2014

More details to Follow......

2013

Cornwall Shinty Club are delighted with the new strips generously provided by Shintyshop in time for the London Festival of Shinty. Drawing twice against the Scots (1-1) and London Camanchd (1-1) in fiercely contested back to back matches, the Cornish have made marked progress in the last year. Six Cornish ladies played for the first Ladies ESA team on Sat 21st Sept, narrowly missing out to St Andrews University 3-2. Hayley Goacher (Cornish Ladies Captain) notably netting twice for ESA.

The Scots 4 -  Cornwall Shinty Club 0

A powerful Scots midfield took immediate control from their fledgling Cornish counterparts- shell-shocked in their first competitive game. Up front for Cornwall, it was clear Mother was unlikely to be massively involved and the Scots Keeper had little need of his fox-hole.

Unrelenting Scots pressure kept the sloitar firmly in the Cornish half, though stoic defence from Mike (The Rock) and more ragged runs at Buckshee, kept the Scots temporarily at arms length. As the superior army fitness told, having a keeper for the first time was looking like a really good idea for the Pasties. Errors from the Cornish skipper invited more menacing shots, but a faultless display by the Cornish Keeper, caman in hand just three times before, saved the captains blushes. Countless slap saves frustrated the Scots barrage, though the 0-0 half time score masked the thin-ice the Cornish skated.

A war of attrition between soldiers and pasty munchers was only really going to go one way. A stumble at full-back and the rock was cracked. Mike limped off with any real chance of a Cornish clean sheet. As the Cornish flagged, inevitable Scots goals ended the contest.

Cornwall Shinty Club  0 -  London Camanachd 5

With the Rock suitably trussed up, Cornwall attempted to regroup, though the defence had their hands full from the off. A pacy and extremely fluid London attack were hard to nail down and deservedly took the lead with a neat twenty yard drive from Love.

With Mike’s gaffer-taped ankle proving inadequate and Baffi’s cramped retreat into goal (again), Ben took over effectively at Buck-Shee back with forward charges adding weight to the Cornish midfield who began to find their feet.

Close harrying from Chris and effective dribbling from the new Vice Captain, saw Cornwall in the London last third, bringing welcome respite to the backs and the first real taste for Lobster and Mother. Donald Sinclair playing full-back superbly for London ensured the London keeper was never seriously threatened- yet glimpses that a Cornish goal was not entirely unrealistic at this level.

London’s slippery forwards, proved too elusive for the improvised Cornish defence who were pulled hopelessly out of position chasing shadows. While Tom Nash struggled valiantly to plug the gaps, poor keeping gifted cheap goals to the Londoners.

The London ladies finished the job emphatically.

The sight of the veteran London full-back bearing down the Cornish goal said it all. An emphatic return for the Londoner’s.
