WEEK 6 15/02/2015

MYLOR CONS 9 - FALMOUTH 4

A triumphant debut match for the newly formed Mylor Cons, establishing themselves in the SW Shinty League with a 9-4 victory. Great play by Chant meant an early lead for Falmouth but the relentless shots at goal by Mossop soon evened things up. A cool and calm Harrell secured both his penalty shots at goal to remind Mylor Cons who they were up against. New recruit Hutchinson claimed a well deserved man of the match for a sterling performance up front. Will Mylor Cons rise to next challenge against league leaders Mabe?

WEEK 4 25/01/2015

Robert Burns Day

CSM 2 - EXTER 1

CSM took the lead with a shot from Sparrow at the start of the game. Exeter responded with an impressive goal from Carlin from the half-way line soon after, finding the top of the net. The new CSM players showed their worth; Perks’ physicality in the game was notable for a new player. Both teams’ defences were tested throughout; the play was as close as the score-line suggests. In the dying moments of the game, the winning goal was scored by Holt; his first recorded goal for CSM; coming in the first match that he has played in the 2014/15 season.

MABE 9 - FALMOUTH 6

Another successful game for Mabe with 9 goals from Mossop, Kelly, Walsh and Walters. Falmouth recruited a few subs (Sparrow & Holt from CSM, Wilkinson & youngster Marcus Buxton in his first competitive game, on loan from Mabe). Despite the loss, a fantastic game for Holt, scoring 4 goals for Falmouth in the last 10 minutes, another 2 goals from Harrell. Well done to Michael Walters for scoring 5 goals and overtaking his sister Libby Walters as the top goal scorer in the South West Shinty League.

WEEK 3 - 30/11/2014

AGM Weekend

MABE 2 - EXETER 1

Mabe and Exeter played out a thrilling game in the latest round of Cornwall shinty league last Sunday in Falmouth. Defences were on top throughout on both sides. Mabe took an early lead in the first half with a good strike from Matt Mossop. Exeter responded quickly with a well taken goal from Chris Peel. The second half was equally close with both sides attacking and defending well. The winning goal came from a hit out from Mabe buckshee back Brendan Kelly. Mabe defended well in the last quarter and held on for a great win.

CSM 2 - FALMOUTH 3

WEEK 2 - 02/11/2014

MABE 5 - CSM 1

EXETER 10 - FALMOUTH 3

WEEK 1 - 18/10/2014
Lowenderperan Weekend

EXETER UNIVERSITY 2 - CSM 6

Both teams fielded relatively new players to shinty; some had never played a game before. Howard had an impressive first game; scoring 3 of CSM’s 6 goals. The CSM defence stood strong for the majority of the match (unlike the goal-posts), managing to intercept frequent long shots from the midfield. Gleadowe and Thomas showed great contention in the midfield; outpacing and outperforming each other every chance they got. This is the first recorded win for the CSM 6s team, having only scored three goals in the previous season but no points; there is potential in the new and improved squad.

MABE 5 - FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY 0

South West Shinty League

WEEK 5 08/02/2015

CSM 1  Falmouth 0

CSM shut out Falmouth's chances and secure 2nd place.

This game was as close as the score-line suggests; both teams had multiple attempts on goal. Despite promising attempts from Harrell, Hastings managed to keep a clean sheet, largely helped by the inexperienced Hutchinson and Harding; showing great potential. During one CSM attack, many players were drawn into a melee in front of the Falmouth goal; Falmouth were unfortunate when Marshall managed to take advantage of a break in the Falmouth defence, scoring her first league goal for CSM. After this win, CSM have secured second place in the league; the final game against league-leaders Mabe should be interesting.

UPDATE: We now know that Marshall suffered a broken leg as a direct result of the goal.  We wish Marshall a speedy recovery!

Mabe 11 - Falmouth 0

Mabe’s cohesive team, worked through the gears with Kelly firing passes effortlessly

bypassing the Exeter centreline and Mabes forward drills began to pay dividends. Mossop

and Walters combining fluidly to stretch the Exeter defence wide open as Walters fired home

his 9th league goal to grab the game by the scruff in the 4th minute. Mossop added to this

less than 2 minutes later and the rout was on. Despite valiant efforts by the Exeter backs,

over-hit crosses from Mossop gave the only respite as Exeter sank 7-0 by the half. Mabe’s

youngster Michael ‘Crofty’ Walters had the crowd going wild as he bagged 5, closing in on

SW Shinty League’s coveted Golden Caman, in a near faultless performance.

A half time re-shuffle from both sides saw key players rested for Mabe and a competent

debut for Russell. Mabe took the foot off the gas, with Wilkinson slotting home her a couple

and the Skipper firing home a cracker from 30 yards into the top left corner as the mighty

Mabe cruised to the biggest win in the history of the SW Shinty League.

WEEK 7 22/02/2015

MYLOR CONS 1 - MABE 1

The Mighty Mabe slip up to the New Kids on the Block, The Champions started brightly with a trademark distance scud from Brendan Kelly - standing in as Skipper at full centre- putting them ahead on 9mins, but Mylor were straight back at them and fully deserved to go into the break 1-1 with a first goal from Alex Sivyer cleanly taken from 20yards (24mins). With the return of the injured Cornish Skipper to the Cons in the second half- the Pros were in full retreat and they were lucky to be saved by the rain as shots rocketed over the bar from the Cons....Mabe 1 (Kelly 9) Mylor Cons 1 (Sivyer 24)...Well it looks like the league is on fire, with a 3-horse race for the title....Pros have to be favourites, but its no-longer beyond either the Miners or CSM, where Exeter and Falmouth battle in the relegation zone.

WEEK 8 01/03/2015

Mylor Cons 3 vs 3 CSM

Exeter 2 vs 3 Falmouth

WEEK 9 15/03/2015

CSM 0  vs  5 Mabe

Couple of shots of the end of CSM's title campaign. The 2 youngsters from Mabe Ben and Brad having cracking debuts...the future looks rosy for Mabe as the summer term shinty coaching at Mabe Primary comes round again...

Exeter 2 vs 7 Mylor Cons

Mylor Cons eventually broke down Exeter after some phenomenal keeping from Katie Threadgill kept them in it til half time. Despite approximately 40 top draw saves from Threadgill, a tactical shift from the Cons saw the Royalists finally succumb

WEEK 10 22/03/2015

Falmouth 5 vs 7 Mylor Cons

Arguably the game of the season as Falmouth took the Cons all the way, Gary Smith on form and Jacob Harrell on the rampage finally up front for practically the first and certainly the last time for Falmouth this season...The Gobbies just didn't have quite enough. Sivyer was on fire for the Cons, good job as Mossop couldn't hit a barn door today, never mind the ball.

WEEK 11 05/04/2015

CSM 1 vs 4 Mylor Cons

A good effort from CSM in their final battle of the 2014-15 campaign....but it was not to be, the Cons were simply too much, finally wearing the Miners down in the last 13mins to keep the Cons in the title chase

WEEK 12 15/04/2015

Exeter  vs  Mylor Cons

WEEK 13 22/04/2015

Mabe 5 vs 3 Mylor Cons

What a cracking finale to the SW Shinty League as Halvasso turn out in force to watch the local Derby, even Constantine fans travelling up from across the Parish border...in the end the Champions were just too much on their new home (the sunset) pitch, though the Cons fought them bitterly for every inch of sacred shinty turf...
With the Cons missing Patrick Hutchinson and Heather Tewnion, the injured Ben Turner was brought into nets for the Cons. With Michael Walters cleeking everyone into oblivion, Mary Walsh crushing all Baffis forward skirmishes, a hatrick from Mabe's wayward Captain was enough to finally bring down the Cons
