St. Andrews Sixes and Natural Retreats Cup

Last Friday, Cornwall Shinty Club travelled to compete in the St Andrew's Sixes tournament. But managed to cram in a pretty action-packed weekend of Shinty.

Arriving Friday Evening we played Glasgow University Shinty Club, in a competitive friendly, losing 5:3. Whether out of sympathy or admiration for our Shinty skills we managed to persuade three of them to join us travelling to St Andrews.

On the Saturday many of our players competed in ESA fixtures. The men in a 4-4 draw against Aberdour, the first time ESA has not been beaten by Scottish opposition and the ladies in a narrow 2-0 Challenge cup defeat against Strathglass.

On the Sunday, Cornwall didn't quite manage to break out of the group stage of the tournament. However having the two finalists in your group is somewhat unlucky, and we did draw against the eventual winners so we can claim a moral third place.

Despite that set-back, Cornwall did come home with Silverware. In an impressive 2-0 display against Caithness with goals from Jamie Cranston & Patrick Finnegan, we held onto the the Natural Retreats Jug.

A massive thank you to our sponsors Harding and Wakefield - Falmouth Estate and Letting Agent & Finn Mcouls, for their generous engagement with us. The new kits look smashing!
